Burtrum City • July 7, 2026

Call to Order/Roll Call: The Mayor called the meeting order at 7:00PM.
Attendance: Mayor Romie Gessell Jr., Council Members Sara Macho, Bobby Veldkamp Jr., Juli Scherping, and Irene Ehlert. City Clerk Brooke Thieschafer.
The Pledge of Allegiance recited.
Agenda: Mayor Gessell wanted to add a Bathroom Remodel Project. Sara Macho wants to add Porta Potty to the Community Center Park.
Macho made a motion to approve the agenda. Scherping supported. All in favor, motion carried.
Minutes: Macho made a motion to approve the minutes. Veldkamp supported. All in favor, motion carried.
Bills: Scherping a motion to approve the bills. Macho supported. All in favor, motion carried.
Todd County Sheriff’s Report: City Clerk went over the calls for the month.
Building Permits – Arianne Quirk – TBD
Erik Gessell – Add lean to existing shop. Ehlert made a motion to approve. Veldkamp supported. All in favor. Motion carried.
Old Business: a. Tree Removal: Letter has been sent out. Mayor Gessell has spoken to all parties regarding the trees.
b. Dust Control: Roads have been completed.
c. Innovated Grant $2500: It has been applied.
New Business: a. Initiative Foundation Donation – Ehlert made a motion to donate $150.00. Scherping supported, all in favor. Motion carried.
b. Macho made a motion to contract 1250 gallons with Rahns for propane. Ehlert supported, all in favor. Motion carried.
c. Culvert – A discussion was had about it being plugged and being overgrown around it. It is plugged by the alleyway, and has nowhere to flow. Terri will reach out to a company for a quote.
d. Restroom Remodel Project (Sourcewell) – A committee was formed of Sara Macho, Irene Ehlert, and Brooke Thieschafer. More to come.
e. Pot-a-potty by the park by the Community Center. Macho made a motion to approve ordering one to be put by the park. Ehlert supported. All in favor, motion carried. City Clerk will order another Port-a-potty.

Heritage Days September 25-26th, 2026
City Wide Garage Sale September 25-26
Adjournment: Macho made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:36 PM. Scherping supported. All in favor, motion carried.
The next City Council meeting is scheduled for August 4th, 2026 at the Burtrum Community Center.

Grey Eagle Township • August 3, 2026
Call to Order: Mike Rohe called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm. The pledge of allegiance was recited.
Present Board: Mike Rohe, John Young, Alan Roering and Christine Gagne. Also Present: Erv Herdering, Arlene Hollenkamp, Mark Hollenkamp and Peter Rutherford.
Agenda Approval: Mike presented a preliminary agenda and asked for additions or corrections. John moved to approve the agenda with the corrections noted, seconded by Alan. Mike called for a vote. Motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes: Mike presented the minutes from June meeting and asked if any corrections. John moved to approve the July 6th, 2026 minutes, seconded by Alan. Mike called for a vote. Motion carried unanimously.
Public Comments: Mike asked for public comments.
Arlene Hollenkamp expressed concern about the application of calcium chloride on Ascot Road to mitigate dust and help stabilize the road. Her concern is the rust damage being done to the vehicles driving on the road. Erv Herdering, clarified that the township is using Magnesium Chloride, not Calcium Chloride, which is known to be less damaging although not completely free of damage. Discussion commenced regarding other options that have been tried in the past that also have not worked and it was requested that the township look into tarring the road. No conclusions were made at this time.
Peter Rutherford inquired about culvert issues on 295th. Erv stated that he is aware of the issue and is working on it in the coming weeks.
Motion: John moved to approve the purchase of trees to replace the storm-damaged trees on 295th and to approve the bid submitted by Tree Top Nursery, along with some maintenance of the trees’ conditions, which will need to be agreed to by the lake shore residents’ group; seconded it by Alan. Mike called for a vote. Motion carried unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: Christine reported for the month of July, 2026:
-Beginning balance: $81,581.09
-Receipts: $2,226.61
-Total Disbursed: $36,078.35
-Ending Balance: $47,729.35
-Total Investment Balance: $90,627.61
-Total Indebtedness Balance: $255,627.15
John moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report-Cash Control Statement, seconded by Alan. Mike called for a vote. Motion carried unanimously.
Town Clerk Report: Christine presented claims with corrections totaling $18,808.43. John moved to approve the claims, seconded it by Alan. Mike called for a vote. Motion carried unanimously. Correspondence (mail and emails) were reviewed.
Road and Bridge Report: Erv reported that two culvert issues have been completed, one on Brakken Road and one on 331st. There are 3 others that need attention as yet; Breezy Drive, 295th and Chippewa.
Adjournment: John moved to adjourn, seconded by Alan, Mike called for a vote. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
Next meeting September 14th at 8:00PM
