Claire Katherine Primus

October 6, 2026 by Hometown News

Claire Katherine Primus, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Sauk Centre Hospital, with her family at her side. Claire was born on February 15, 1934, to Edmund and Marie Haasser. She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and graduated from St. Francis Catholic School.
Claire met Roman Primus when he came into her workplace while looking for a gift. That visit was to become the beginning of their love story and many years spent together. Claire and Roman were wed on May 22, 1956, and were blessed with 66 years of marriage. They raised eight children on their dairy farm in rural Long Prairie, creating a home filled with love and warm welcome.
Claire enjoyed playing cards and bingo, expressing her creativity through art and drawing, and spending time baking, reading, and gardening. She cared deeply for nature and birds, and embraced the simple pleasures of life. Being a mother was one of her greatest blessings, and her children and grandchildren were her true pride and joy.
There was always room at Claire’s table and a hearty meal was guaranteed to be shared. Whether offering something she had baked, enjoying a game of cards, or simply visiting, she made those around her feel welcome and cared for. Her love lives on in the hearts of her family and friends and carries on in the many memories made together. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Claire leaves behind her children; Mary (Roger) Thundershield, Anne Villalobos, Dominic (Lori) Primus, Maurita Primus, John (Geralyn) Primus, Peter Primus, Luke (Jennifer) Primus, Charles (Amanda) Primus; siblings, Joan, Lester (Gloria), Elaine, Anthony (Sandra), Barbara (David); sister-in-law; Betty; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
Claire is preceded in death by her husband Roman, daughter Mary Carmel, parents Edmund and Marie, siblings; Larry, Joe, Ralph, and Ronald Haasser, and numerous in-laws.
