Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 28, 2026 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon for Mary Ann Pogatschnik, 93 of Albany and formerly of Avon who died on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Rev. Michael Peterson officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mary Ann was born August 12, 1933 in St. Anna to Theodore and Mary (Fussy) Chock. She married Edwin “Butch” Pogatschnik on September 21, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna. Mary Ann and Butch owned and operated the Avon Elevator from 1959 to 2007. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon and Christian Women’s Group.
She found great joy in the simple things that brought family and home together. She loved sewing, embroidering, gardening, baking Polish coffee cakes, canning—taking pride in creating things with her own hands and sharing the fruits of her work with those she loved. Family was at the heart of her life, and her faith and spirituality provided a strong foundation throughout her years. She shared a lifelong partnership with Edwin “Butch”, and together they built a life filled with family, love, faith and many cherished memories.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Karen); Rick (Sharon); Dan (Sue); Laurie (Mark) Swenson; brother, Eugene (Connie) Chock; and sister, Mary Panek; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Butch in 2012; son, John; granddaughter, Anna; great-granddaughter, Grace; and her brothers, Richard and Louis.
