Successful Primary Election with Highest Turnout in 20 Years

Stearns County is pleased to report a smooth and successful August Primary Election, highlighted by strong voter participation and efficient operations across all precincts.
Stearns County recorded an overall turnout of 26.5%, with 21,913 voters casting ballots in person on Election Day, that’s the highest Election Day turnout the County has seen in more than two decades.
Absentee voting also reached its highest level seen in recent primary elections. Primary turnout data is below for reference:
2026: 104,964 registered voters; 27,915 total voters (26.59% turnout); 6,002 absentees (21.5%)
2022: 95,051 registered voters; 21,904 total voters (23% turnout); 4,974 absentee (23%)2018: 87,791 registered voters; 20,438 total voters (23% turnout); 2,953 absentees (14%)
Unofficial results for all contests from yesterday’s Primary Election can be accessed through the Stearns County website at: stearnscountymn.gov/792.
Election Day went smoothly with no incidents reported across any precincts. All voting equipment functioned reliably, with every machine operating on time at 7:00 a.m. Absentee balloting remained consistent, and precincts reported well-organized, efficient voting processes throughout the day.
Stearns County extends sincere appreciation to its dedicated clerks, election judges, and County staff. Their commitment, long hours, and attention to detail were essential to ensuring a secure, accurate, and successful election.
