41st Annual Farm Picnic to address veterans care by a retired VA physician and disaster recovery loans by the Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Sunday, August 21, Pierz Park, Pierz
Commissioner of Agriculture Thom Petersen and Dr. Ken Engelhart, a retired VA physician section chief, will address respectively the availability of zero-interest disaster recovery loans and veterans VA health care concerns at the 41st Annual Farm Picnic, Sunday, August 21, 1 PM, at Pierz Park, Pierz.
Come early, before the 1 PM dinner serving, to visit with Dr. Engelhart on his experiences at VA health care and veterans’ concerns over maintaining VA’s unique quality of care required by vets.
Commissioner Petersen announced at Farmfest that “if you had drought last year, avian influenza, or were hit by these big storms we’ve had, you can use those zero-interest disaster loans, which are seeing quite a bit of activity.”
Having many years of experience in private practice with a small rural clinic and a large HMO, and in public VA practice, Dr. Engelhart can compare the quality of care provided in both systems relating to rural Minnesota.
Minnesota COACT and Morrison County Farmers Union co-sponsor the Farm Picnic which annually celebrates family farms and main street businesses as pillars of our rural economy.
Serving of the traditional country dinner of ham, sweet corn, and potato salad begins at 1 PM. Minnesota Farmers Union is providing the ham, and the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls are offering the potato salad, fresh-baked bread, and garden vegetables. Morrison County Dairy Princesses, if available, will serve milk and ice cream.
Free tickets, compliments of local businesses, are available at businesses displaying Farm Picnic posters and will be available, free, at the Picnic.
