Alan F. “Al” Nieuwboer

Daniela Alan F. “Al” Nieuwboer, age 70 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his home near Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Alan Frederick Nieuwboer was born June 8, 1951 in Luverne, Minnesota to Fred and Margaret (Bode) Nieuwboer. He graduated from Hancock High School and continued with post-secondary training. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Miller on March 31, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Al spent his career in the electronics manufacturing field. In 1997, he founded Optoelectronics Center Incorporated (OCI) which specialized in the design, manufacturing, and testing of optical switches until his retirement in 2019. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping. Al loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. As long as they were playing well, Al was a devoted fan of Minnesota sports such as the Twins, Vikings, Gophers, Timberwolves, and he enjoyed watching the PGA.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Mary of Sauk Centre; children, Emily (Andy) Lewis of Florida, Ashley (Geoff) Dauksas of Western Springs, Illinois, Jenny (Nick) Uphus of Wasilla, Alaska, Chad Nieuwboer, and Karie Barry; nine grandchildren, Liam, Tannin, Flint, Oliver, Harper, Logan, Rylan, Sasha, and Devlyn; and sisters, Nancy (Jim) Sellner of Garland, Texas and Margaret (Dwight) Lauinger of Hutchinson.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Freddie Nieuwboer.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
