A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon for Amor J. Himsl, age 90, of Avon. Amor passed away peacefully on October 12 at the St. Cloud Hospital with his loving family at his side. Reverend Blane Wasnie, OSB will officiate. Entombment will take place in the St. Benedict’s Parish Cemetery with full military honors.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday all at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon. Parish Prayers will be at 4:15 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Amor was born April 19, 1922 in Avon, MN to Frank and Julia (Achman) Himsl. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945 on the USS Cowpens in the Pacific Theatre of War. He married Lorraine Cherne on April 19, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Anthony. He worked at Kollmann Monument as a stonecutter. He later became a full time farmer in the Avon/Collegeville area. A member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 538 in Avon.
Amor is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years Lorraine, children Joyce (Jim) Vos of Sauk Rapids, Joel (Suzanne) Himsl of Moline, Illinois, Amor P. (Deb) Himsl of Sauk Centre, Jayne (Dennis) Hoffarth of Maple Grove and Frank (Karla) Himsl of Avon, 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brothers Al Himsl of PA, Meinulf Himsl of Avon and Melbourne Himsl of Avon, sisters Julia Lichy of Foley, Joan Pflueger of Collegeville, and Louise Honl of Rice and sister-in-law Rose Marian Himsl of AR.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters Eldred, Mildred Mock, Gerald and Marie Poppen.
