Anthony B. “Tony” Ellering, age 83 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating, Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating and Deacon Stephen Arnold assisting. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.
Anthony Bernard Ellering was born April 9, 1929 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Alphonse and Elizabeth (Welle) Ellering. On June 6, 1950 he married Mary Margaret Gross at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 6. The couple farmed in the Greenwald area for 36 years. After farming, Tony and Mary moved to Melrose to enjoy retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Michael’s Men’s Society of Greenwald, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1633.
Tony enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Ellering of Melrose; children, Mark (Janice) Ellering of St. Cloud, Michael (Joan) Ellering of Greenwald, Antoinette (Ned) Evens of Tomball, TX, Daniel (Norma) Ellering of Sauk Centre, David (Mary) Ellering of St. Cloud, Anthony “Tony” Ellering of St. Cloud, and Jeff (Michelle) Ellering of Columbia Heights; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Ann (Mel) Roehrl of Melrose, Al (Carlyn) Ellering of Melrose and Mary (Vern) Jacobs of Melrose.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Joseph Ellering.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tony’s sons, Mark, Michael, Daniel, David, Anthony, and Jeff. Cross bearer will be Tony’s daughter, Antoinette Evens and scripture bearer will be Michael Gross. Mass servers will be Gabe Ellering and Chloe Ellering. Gift bearers will be Michael Gross, June Domine and Deb Duclos. Readers will be Patrick Ellering and Ben Ellering. Eucharistic Minister will be Jen Ellering.
