The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on 2-24-2025 at approximately 11:16 pm, their office received a report of an attempted theft of an ATM machine from Farmers & Merchants State Bank on Main Street in the city of Pierz, MN.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the suspects hooked a chain to the ATM and pulled it off its foundation with a truck that was reported stolen from Fergus Falls, MN. The suspects got in a newer style light-colored SUV and fled the scene prior to getting the ATM loaded. Deputies responded to the scene, set up a perimeter and searched the area with the assistance of a K9 and a MN State Patrol aircraft. Despite efforts by local law enforcement, the suspects were not located.
Law enforcement is investigating similar incidents that occurred within the last week in Crookston and Pelican Rapids, suggesting the same group may be involved. We believe there are at least three individuals involved, with two attempting the theft and one driving the getaway vehicle. We have provided a photo of the light-colored suspect SUV getaway vehicle as well as two of the suspects dressed in black attempting to steal the ATM.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Pierz Police Department and the MN State Patrol.
This case is still under investigation. We have reviewed several surveillance videos and are asking Pierz residents to review their own surveillance cameras if they have them. The timeframe we are looking for assistance is from 10:30pm to 11:30pm on 2-24-2025. If you have information regarding this attempted theft, you are asked to call the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office at 320-632-9233.
