Deputies responded to a possible domestic assault and welfare check at 20155 County Road 200 in Crow Lake Township on Sunday evening.
Initial reports stated an adult male at the residence had been drinking and was intoxicated. The male made threats against the other person in the residence, himself and law enforcement.
Deputies from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers from the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the residence and took up a position around the home. They tried to contact the male, who was now alone inside.
Numerous phone calls were attempted and eventually contact was made with the male. Deputies tried to convince the male to come outside and informed him he would be arrested. After several minutes, he made his way outside to the driveway area. Deputies and Troopers made contact with him in the driveway and placed him under arrest. He was identified as Philip Garberich, 69, of Belgrade.
Mr. Garberich was both verbally and physically uncooperative. Once he was in custody, he was transported to the Stearns County Jail.
During the transport, Mr. Garberich remained verbally combative and broke out a light in the back of a Stearns County squad car. At the jail, he was booked and held on charges of Terroristic Threats and Obstructing Legal process.
