On February 21, 2026, at 11:58 a.m., the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a call from a female saying that her son had shot someone at a residence in 900 block of School Street in the City of Belgrade. When officers arrived, they identified a male who had been shot multiple times.
The male party was transported to Paynesville Hospital, then transported by helicopter to the St. Cloud Hospital, and then Hennepin County Medical Center. It is expected that his injuries are non-life-threatening.
James Basore, 44, of Belgrade was taken into custody. He is being held in custody pending charges from the Stearns County Attorney’s Office.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and Belgrade/Brooten Police Department were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Kandiyohi County Sheriff, and the Cold Spring Police Department.
