Bernard A. “Bernie” Marty age 91 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Interment was at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls following the lunch.
Bernard Anton Marty was born October 28, 1923 in Grey Eagle Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Frank and Rosella (Meagher) Marty. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines. He was employed at Kraft in Melrose for four years before he started farming in Grey Eagle. After retiring from farming, he continued to live on his farm and most recently resided at Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre.
Bernie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the Schanharr-Otte VFW Post 7050. Bernie will always be remembered as having a smile on his face.
Survivors include his brother, William “Bill” Marty Sr. of Grey Eagle; nephew, William “Billy” (Jenny) Marty Jr. of Sauk Rapids; nieces, Stephanie George of Sauk Centre and Heidi Paulson of Fergus Falls; great-nephews, Justin George, Henry Marty, and Carter Marty; and great-niece, Sadie Marty.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister, Adolph Marty, Agnes Marty, and Raymond Marty; sister-in-law, Rita Marty; and nephews, Frank and Neil Marty.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Grey Eagle.
