Betty Jane Fietek, 83 year old resident of Swanville, MN, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at her residence. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 9, 2018, at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with Pastor Lindsay Jones officiating. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday and two hours prior to the service on Monday all at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
Betty Jane Verley was born January 9, 1935 to Lida and Richard Verley, Sr. in Little Falls, MN. She grew up and attended school in the Little Falls area. She married the love of her life, Eugene (Jim) L. Fietek on June 21, 1956. They lived and worked in the Twin Cities area until 1967, when they moved back to Little Falls. She worked at a local café before taking a part-time position with Little Falls Plumbing and Heating. In 1971, Betty and Jim started their own septic and sewer business until 1975, when they purchased the Twelve Mile Tavern. They ran the Twelve Mile Tavern for 8 ½ years and later sold it. In 1990, they purchased the Whoopie Inn, which they operated until they retired in 1994. Upon retiring, they purchased their home in Cushing, MN, where they resided until the passing of Jim in 2003. In 2007, Betty moved in with her daughter, Laurie, and resided with her until her death on July 2, 2018. Her hobbies included, riding horses, vacationing, fishing, sewing, cooking, and gardening. Betty was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW in Randall, MN. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as spoiling all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Lynda Szczodroski (Kevin) of Stover, MO; Laurie Poegel (Marvin Jr.) of Swanville, MN; Sandra Penny and Carol Langner; brothers, Richard Verley, Jr. (Liz), Terry Verley (Jan); sister, Marsha Paquin (Joe); six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lida and Richard Verley, Sr.; husband, Eugene (Jim) L. Fietek; sisters, Margaret (Micky) Stumpf and Delores Hemmelman.
