The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises no unnecessary travel due to heavy snow on roadways, blowing snow and poor visibility in Sauk Centre, Long Prairie, Little Falls, Motley, Pine River, Garrison, Remer, Aitkin, Hill City and surrounding areas.
Also, road conditions are snow covered and slick throughout most of Central Minnesota. Motorists should be aware that road conditions will continue to change quickly, and may become ice covered in areas when pavement temperatures drop below freezing.
MnDOT snow plow operators are doing their part to make highways safe. Motorists must do their part and remember to:
Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip.
Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
Don’t use cruise control when roadways are wet or slippery.
Stay alert for slow moving snowplows. Snowplows also turn or exit frequently and often with little warning, and may travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
Check current road conditions at www.511mn.org; takes time to get roads back to good driving conditions.
Stay back at least five car lengths behind the plow, far from the snow cloud. Snowplow operators will pull over when it is safe to do so to allow traffic build-up to pass.
