Motorists traveling on Stearns County Road 159/135th Avenue near St. John’s University will encounter detours, road closures and flaggers as the bridge spanning Interstate 94 is intermittently closed Aug. 6-9.
On Monday, Aug. 6, the bridge will reduce to a single lane with flaggers controlling traffic from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, Aug. 7, through Thursday, Aug. 9, the bridge will close in both directions for eight out of every 10 minutes throughout the day. For two out of every 10 minutes, flaggers will control alternating traffic across the bridge.
A signed detour will direct westbound I-94 motorists travelling to Collegeville farther along westbound I-94 to southbound Stearns County Road 9 in Avon, eastbound I-94 and back to southbound County Road 159/135th Avenue.
All ramps at the bridge will remain open at all times.
The closures are needed as crews install electronic instruments to collect data as part of a study to measure bridge performance. The University of Minnesota’s Department of Civil Engineering is conducting this study.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises motorists to seek alternate routes, slow down and use extra caution when navigating any work zone and never enter a closed road.
