Calvin A. Wunsch

Calvin A. Wunsch, 91, of Upsala, Minnesota, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 22, 2018 in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Cal was born on May 2, 1927 in Plymouth, Wisconsin to the late Edwin and Lauretta (Bassuener) Wunsch.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1st at Word of Life Free Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN. Lunch to follow. Memorials may be directed to the Upsala Community Center.
Cal grew up living in Freeport, IL with his parents and two siblings in a German speaking home. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and then went to active duty when he graduated from high school in 1945, where he served in World War II. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and finished his degree in Physical Education at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Cal enjoyed playing basketball in high school and college.
Cal first met his wife, Suzanne, when the Navy sent him to the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, IA, where Suzanne attended college. They fell in love, but eventually went their separate ways, each raising their own families. In 1998, 53 years later, Cal and Suzanne reconnected and were married on June 22, 1999 during the Wunsch family annual lake vacation in the woods near Rhinelander, WI. They have been blessed to spend the last twenty wonderful years together.
Cal led a full life and blessed many people along the way. He worked as an educator and social worker. He loved his family, sailing, gardening, poetry, playing his Melodica (tooter horn), music, and entertaining friends.
Calvin is survived by wife, Suzanne Wunsch of Upsala, MN; daughter, Margaret Wunsch of Brookfield, WI; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wunsch of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, John (Karissa) Wunsch of Onalaska, WI, Jennifer (Aaron) Carrell of Eden Prairie, MN, Jodi (Tony) Gallup of Eden Prairie, MN; great-grandchildren, Lyla & Brielle Carrell, Abigail & Calvin Gallup. Also survived by stepdaughter Kathleen Sedehi of Palo Alto, CA; stepson Kevin Korecky of Palo Alto, CA.
Calvin was preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Lauretta Wunsch; late wife, Hazel Johnson; sons, Herbert Wunsch, John Wunsch; daughter, Sharon Wunsch; brother, Elwood Wunsch; sister, Gertrude Wunsch.
