Carol Niehaus

Carol Niehaus, 90 passed away peacefully at home with family at her side, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Carol Eveslage was born June 3, 1935 in Freeport, MN to Loretta and Ferdinand Eveslage. She excelled in school and was president of her graduating class.
After meeting Anthony (Tony) Niehaus while ice skating on King’s Lake, they married on Aug. 17, 1954. She and Tony took over the family farm North of Melrose. Family and friends were always welcome at their home and table. No one left on an empty stomach.
Along with raising seven active children she was very involved in church and community. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Hospital Auxillary, and St. Mary’s Cemetery Board. After retirement from the farm, she worked over 30 years for the local Credit Union. She was best known as Grandma Carol by the St. Mary’s School children as she volunteered over 30 years in the classroom along with taking care of the school flower garden. Her green thumb provided many a bountiful harvest from her farm garden that she shared with all.
Carol and Tony enjoyed entertaining at their cabin on Big Birch Lake where every summer their Sandy Beach lake shore was enjoyed by many.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Anthony (Tony) Niehaus; children, Jeanne (Michael Howe), Anthony Jr. (Butch) (Mary), John, (Mary), Bob, (Deb), Allen, (Sheryl), Julie Comfort (Jeff), Jan Herke (Mick); thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brother, John Eveslage; sister, Kathy Eveslage.
Carol was preceded in death by newborn babies, Ann Marie, Mary Jo, Thomas and Mark. Her parents Loretta and Ferdinand Eveslage, sisters Bernadine Koetter, Elaine Hinnenkamp, Mary Eveslage; brothers, Melvin (Bud) and Leo Eveslage.
A wake will be held at the Melrose Patton-Schad Funeral Home Friday, March 20 from 4-8 PM
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose, MN. Saturday, March 21 at 11 AM, with visitation one hour before the service.
