Spaghetti dinner and silent auction benefit held for Scott Luing on April 27, 2012

On April 27, 2012, there was a spaghetti dinner and silent auction benefit held for Scott Luing at the Little Falls Ballroom. Scott has been battling cancerous Lymphoma. His treatments have been going well, but he is not expected be able to go back to work for at least a year. A spaghetti dinner fund-raiser was held on May 5, 2012 at the American Legion in Long Prairie for Benjamin Poegel, son of Joe Poegel and Carol Kenyon of Swanville. Benjamin was born on March 30, 2012 with a heart defect. He has undergone several surgeries to correct the problem. DNR temporarily closes La Salle Lake State Recreation Area; discourages visits to Itasca State Park due to severe storm damage

La Salle Lake State Recreation Area is being evacuated and closed, and people are asked to postpone day visits to Itasca State Park while crews work to clean up downed trees from last night's severe storms in northwestern Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
