Catherine H. Hartung, 83 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at her home, surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala, MN with Father John Odero officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Upsala, MN. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday.
Catherine was born November 25, 1932 in Saint Martin, Minnesota to the late Daniel and Catherine (Ehresmann) Arceneau. She attended Saint Bens High School and College at the age of 18. She taught during the school year and went to college during the summer. She taught in New Munich, Staples, and Dumont. After she left Saint Bens in 1966, she taught in Saint Martin for 2 years and then got married to Leo Hartung on August 17, 1968. Leo and Catherine bought a farm near Holdingford and farmed until 1991. Catherine later moved to Upsala where she was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. She worked for GNP, Assisted Living in Holdingford and the grocery store in Upsala. After retirement, Catherine spent her time taking care of her grandchildren.
Catherine is survived by her children, Ervin Hartung of Upsala MN, Mary Pohlmann of Upsala, MN and Lisa George of Upsala, MN; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Tiffany, Brittany, Melissa, Christopher, Gracie, Shawn and Stefani; siblings, Sister Anne Arceneau of St. Joseph, MN, Sister Modesta Arceneau of St. Joseph, MN, Elizabeth (Norbert) Osendorf of Paynesville, MN, Marcella Eibensteiner of Elrosa, MN and Valentine (Bernie) Arceneau of Melrose, MN.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Hartung; parents, Danial and Catherine Arceneau; granddaughter, Kyrsten Pohlmann; siblings, Marcellus Arceneau and Leander Arceneau.
Pallbearers will be Christopher George, Shawn Pohlmann, Tim Gerads, David Eibensteiner, Mike Osendorf and Melvin Hartung.
