CentraCare Earth Day Run Moves to Downtown St. Cloud for 2019

October 3, 2018 by Hometown News

St. Cloud, Minn. – For its 20th anniversary the CentraCare Earth Day Run will move from the St. Cloud State University campus to downtown St. Cloud. Taking place April 19-20, 2019, the event will once again include a half marathon and relay, 5K and 1K kids run. As the area’s largest and most popular running event, the Earth Day Run brings nearly 5,000 participants and an additional 10,000 spectators to the St. Cloud area each spring.
“The event continues to grow each year,” said race director Evin Haukos. “By bringing it downtown, we can showcase St. Cloud on a larger scale. We’re excited to partner with the city and downtown businesses to create an event to make St. Cloud proud.”
“Events that draw a large number of people to town can have a huge economic impact,” said St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis. “With the Earth Day Run’s change in location, people can explore our fun downtown scene, finding incredible shops and dining experiences right at their fingertips.”
While a decade ago, the Earth Day Run cut through sections of downtown, plans for 2019 bring it to the next level and fulfills the dream of the original race organizers. The half marathon will start on Veteran’s Bridge and finish on St. Germain, which will be closed to traffic from the Paramount Theatre to the River’s Edge Convention Center, allowing for a festive block party with live music, refreshments and outdoor seating. “There is nothing better than a downtown finish when it comes to running a race,” said Haukos.
As the event organizer, CentraCare Health will continue to ensure all Earth Day Run events encourage people of all ages and activity levels to get out and move more, making the healthy choice the easy choice for people everywhere, everyday.
Registration for all Earth Day Run events will open on Thursday, Oct. 4 on runearthday.com.

For race event questions or inquiries please contact Race Director Evin Haukos at 320-249-9155.
