Clyde Knapp, 89, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, June 23, 2014 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji, MN.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the Moses Dane Cemetery, Burtrum, MN.
Clyde William Knapp was born August 21, 1924 in Burtrum, MN to Jason and Florence (Clark) Knapp. He attended school in Burtrum. On February 23, 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 179th Field Artillery Battalion as a heavy machine gunner (50 caliber). His unit landed in France early in August 1944 as part of General George Pattons 3rd Army, fighting in France, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia to the end of the war in Europe. After the war he worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 40 years, starting as a telegrapher but held many other positions. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Gene Knapp and Howard Knapp; and sister, Kathryn Stevens.
