On October 7th, 2022, at approximately 4:23 p.m., the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a motorcycle crash with injuries at the intersection of County Road 75 and County Road 3 within the city of St. Joseph. Upon arrival Stearns County Deputies and St. Joseph Police Department Officers found that the crash involved a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Benjamin James Lingl, 36, of Cold Spring, and a 2013 Buick sedan driven by Mary Lynn Hocum, 56, of Avon.
Initial information showed that Lingl was traveling southbound on County Road 3 through the intersection of County Road 75 when he was struck by Hocum. Hocum was traveling westbound on County Road 75 through the intersection of County Road 3. Lingl was transported to the St Cloud Hospital with serious injuries for further medical evaluation. Hocum was treated at the scene and released. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and St Joseph Police Department responded to the scene and were assisted by the St Joseph Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and Mayo Ambulance. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
