David G. Holmen, 87 year old resident of Burtrum, MN, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his residence. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at Community Covenant Church in Upsala, MN, with Pastor Steve Weihsmann officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the funeral. Caring for David and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel.
David George Holmen was born on July 29, 1936 in Little Falls, MN to the late George and Olive (Johnson) Holmen. He graduated from Upsala High School in 1954 and then joined the Navy for two years. Dave was honorably discharged on December 26, 1962. He was united in marriage to Shirley Hedin on February 2, 1989 at the courthouse in Little Falls. For 33 years Dave and Shirley owned and operated Cedar Pine Strawberry Farm in Upsala. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed fishing and earlier in his years liked hunting, gardening and cutting wood.
Dave is survived by his wife, Shirley Holmen; daughter, Sheryl Lall (Jerry) Hitt; stepson, Joe (Tina) Steuck; sisters-in-law, Fran Holmen and Carolyn Holmen; grandchildren, Alyssa and Brandon Lall, Casey Baker, Joseph Steuck and Hunter Steuck; many nieces and nephews; and many honorary adopted grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olive Holmen; brothers, Dennis, James and Leonard and sister, Jeanette Pangrac.
