Denis H. Marthaler, age 82 of Melrose, died peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, August 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment was in the parish cemetery.
Denis Herman Marthaler was born May 23, 1937 in Greenwald, Minnesota to Alphonse and Dorothy (Imdieke) Marthaler. He attended grade school in Meire Grove and graduated from Melrose High School. After high school Denis joined the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He worked as a mechanic at A.M. Maus and Sons from 1960 to 1966 and then moved to the cities and worked at Len’s Standard until his retirement.
Denis was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. He enjoyed trapshooting, bowling, and any type of mechanic work.
Survivors include his brother and sisters, Melvin (Lucille) Marthaler of Cold Spring, Dorothy Lembeck of Spring Hill, Clarine Stalberger of Meire Grove, and Janice (Will) Kalstrom of St. Cloud; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Denis was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, LaVina Walz; brothers-in-law, Cyril Stalberger, Allen Lembeck, and Lindy Walz; and nephew, John Walz.
Serving as urn bearer was Chuck Froehling. Cross bearer was Barb Froehling and scripture bearer was Mary Braun. Gift bearers were Ralph and Rosie Inderrieden. Readers were Mary Marthaler and Jackie Dahl. Eucharistic Minister was Veronica Inderrieden.
