Funeral Services will be at 11 am, Friday, December 22, 2017 at American Lutheran Church, Long Prairie, Minnesota for Dolores M. Bengtson, age 90, who passed away Monday at the CentraCare Health Systems-Long Prairie. Rev. Bill Bakewicz will officiate and burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Dolores Muriel Nelson was born June 14, 1927 in Braham, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank Arthur & Nina Catherine (Peterson) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Braham graduating in 1945. Dolores was confirmed at Siloa Lutheran Church in Braham. She worked as a secretary for the president of the Braham bank. She later moved to St. Paul where she was employed at Brown & Bigelow. Dolores was united in marriage to Carl A. Bengtson on August 21, 1954 in Braham. Due to Carl’s job with the Government, they lived in Moorhead, Roseau, Baudette, Warren, and Pine City before settling in Long Prairie in 1964.
Dolores was a member of American Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School for years and took part in Bible Studies with Carl as well. She also enjoyed gardening and yard work. Dolores also enjoyed camping with her family and traveling. She also was very interested in current events, politics, and reading biographies. One of the things she enjoyed most was cooking and entertaining family.
Dolores is survived by her children, Gary (Debra) Bengtson, Urbandale, IA, Janice Bengtson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Julie Bengtson, Long Prairie, MN, and Carol Bengtson, Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Luke Bengtson, Matt (Taryn) Bengtson, Josh Bengtson, Heidi (Saroj) Phuyal; and a sister, Shirley (Ted) Anderson, Plymouth, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, and sisters Marian Fruechte and Ardis Niemi.
