
Dorothy J. Dyrseth, age 73 of Melrose, formerly of Greenwald and Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Saint Cloud Hospital in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Inurnment will be at MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date.
Dorothy Jayne Haugen was born June 13, 1944 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Sam and Gertie (Nesland) Haugen. She graduated from Goodridge High School in Minnesota and continued her education at Mankato State University. She taught English at Cooper Senior High from 1965 to 1972 and was a substitute teacher from 1972 until her retirement from teaching in 1988. During retirement, she was a book editor for Vocational Biographies in Sauk Centre from 1988 to 2006. On August 28, 1965, she married Gerald “Jerry” Dyrseth at Telemarken Lutheran Church in rural Goodridge. The couple moved to Greenwald in 1973 where they owned and operated Jerry’s Grocery until 1998. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Sonja (Bill) Kruger of Mankato, Sarah (Paul) Kluempke of Melbourne Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Kiersten and Maria Kruger, and Aidan Kluempke; brothers and sister, Milton (Corrine) Haugen of Chaska, Anne (Douglas) Keim of North Oaks, and Gene (Elaine) Haugen of Des Moines, Washington; brother-in-law, John (Karen) Dyrseth of Modesto, California; sisters-in-law, Linda (Dave) Ulrich of Thief River Falls and Virginia Kettleson of Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dyrseth on June 4, 2000; parents; brothers-in-law, Don Conely and Charles Kettleson.
Serving as urn bearer was Kiersten Kruger, cross bearer was Maria Kruger, and scripture bearer was Aidan Kluempke.
