Dorothy Mildred Bolen of Mora, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Country Manor in Sartell. She was 89 years old.
Dorothy was born September 21, 1930, in Ogilvie, to Alfred and Ethel Brockoff. She married Jack H. Bolen on June 17, 1953. Dorothy lived in Mora from that time until February 2020, but always held a connection and love for her hometown of Ogilvie. Through her working years, Dorothy performed secretarial and office work for Tinker and Johnson car dealership, Kanabec County Welfare Office and the Farmers Home Administration, both in Mora and Cambridge. As a vibrant member of both her church and community, she held many offices and was active in church and Women’s Missions at Zion Lutheran Church; was a charter member and officer of the hospital auxiliary and enjoyed many hours over the years volunteering at the hospital. Dorothy was also a Kanabec County Senior Citizen of the Year.
Dorothy cherished her Birthday Club group of friends and their monthly get togethers over decades of time. Keeping her flower beds well-kept was a hobby of Dorothy’s each year and she could often be seen outdoors going for a walk around town. She was known for sharing conversation, love and food with others, especially her delicious brownies that were often brought to social functions. In her earlier years, she spent time traveling with family and friends, particularly repeat visits to Colorado and Florida. When she became more homebound, Dorothy was a faithful Twins baseball and Timberwolves basketball fan and was sure not to miss watching a game.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; sister Marilyn Ketter.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Janet (Jim) Krych of Holdingford; grandson Joshua (Lori) Krych; granddaughter Sarah (Reed) Heidelberger; great grandchildren, Lily, Jack, Cole, Jonah, Andrew, Gianna, Margaret, Lewis and Benedict; sister Deloris Lewellyn; sister-in-law Anita (Darreld) Olson; nephews, Mike and Brian; nieces, Jill, Colleen and Polly; many dear friends, family and neighbors.
A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating. Music was provided by Karen Kirschner- Danielson. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Arrangments are by the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
