Dr. Joseph Walter Miller

Dr. Joseph Walter Miller, age 87. Scottsdale AZ, formerly of Fargo ND. Passed away June 25, 2017 in Gilbert, AZ surrounded by family under the care of Lund House, Hospice of the Valley.
Joe was born August 7, 1929 in Chicago, IL and grew up in Holdingford, MN. After graduating from Holdingford High School and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Joe attended the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University where he specialized in orthopedics. He interned at St. Johns Hospital in Chicago and worked under Dr. Homer Stryker in Kalamazoo, MI. Joe served in the Coast Guard Reserves and was chief of orthopedic surgery with the US Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans before settling his family in Fargo, ND. He was a founding member of Dakota Clinic, Ltd. where he practiced until retiring in 1991. Very involved in the church, he served on the school board of Fargo Catholic Schools and was a founding member of Nativity Catholic Church. Always in motion and always learning, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, reading, birding, and the many years at his lake home in Park Rapids, MN. A humble man, Joe took care of people his entire life. While Joe will be remembered as a mentor and philanthropist, his greatest love was his family.
Having shared his life, the following carry forth his memories: children Cathy (Juan) Martinez, Fargo ND; Michael (Lolly), Salt Lake City UT; John (Michelle), East Bethel MN; Mark (Sharon), Woodbury MN; Mary (Bill) Conati, Gilbert AZ; grandchildren Michael, Katelyn, Andrew, Natalie, and Jeremy.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dawn; mother Lena Miller; brothers Walter and Lester Miller; sister Helen Ebnet.
Visitation at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Holdingford MN from 10 am-11 am on Saturday, August 5, 2017 with a memorial mass at 11 am. Interment to follow at St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.
