Edmund Nelson

Edmund Nelson 89 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his home in Upsala, MN. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN Rev. Craig Johnson will be officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery in Upsala, MN. Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Thursday at the church.
Edmund L. Nelson was born on November 3, 1924 in Elmdale Township to the late Charles and Clara (Anderson) Nelson. Ed attended Upsala Area Schools. He was confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church In Upsala in 1939, where he was a lifetime member.
He drove school bus in the Hopkins School District for many years and worked as a farm hand for many farmers. Ed married Virginia Thompson on October 12th, 1991 and they lived in Upsala at Valley View Apartments up to the time of his death. Ed loved spending time with family and friends and playing cards especially Wild 500. He also loved collecting old car and tractor models.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 23 years Virginia Thompson of Upsala, step-daughter Bev (Rollie) Johnson of Upsala, step-son Wes Thompson of Sartell, MN, 7 step-grandchildren Dawn (Rodney Hayes) Janssen, Melissa (Tom) Hodge, Rollie (Joan) Johnson Jr., Melanie (Sam) Waweru, Mike Thompson, Lonnie (Amanda) Thompson and Allen Thompson, 18 step-great grandchilden, and 2 step-great great grandchildren and one on the way (due November 2014). Brother Jerry (Sue) Nelson of Auburn, CA; sisters Della Merchant of Crystal, MN and Shirley (Carl) Drugge of Minneapolis, MN, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Nelson, brother Lloyd Nelson and sisters Doris Tuma and Vinie Gray.
Casket Bearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons; Rollie Johnson Jr., Lonnie Thompson, Allen Thompson, Mike Thompson, Russell Janssen, Logan Janssen and Riley Johnson.
