Edward “Ed” Berscheid

Edward J. “Ed” Berscheid, age 98 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Grey Eagle, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Little Sauk Legion. Inurnment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Ward Springs.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Edward Joseph Berscheid was born September 13, 1925 in Grey Eagle, Minnesota to Nicholas and Mae (Pluth) Berscheid. He graduated from Grey Eagle High School and served in the U.S. Navy stationed on the USS Lexington during World War II. After the military, he married Rosalie Ahrens on September 19, 1950 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Ed worked in construction in the Twin Cities for 16 years. He purchased the Ward Springs Store which he owned and operated for 10 years. He then farmed full time until 1987 when he retired. Ed and Rosalie continued living on the farm until 2007 before moving to Sauk Centre.
Ed enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, fishing, hunting, gardening, tending to his apple trees, and taking care of his dogs. One of Ed’s biggest joys was taking his grandchildren around the farm showing them the fruits of his labor. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk.
Survivors include his children, Susan (Paul) Dierkhising of St. Cloud, Dianne (Roger) Petersen of St. Cloud, Mike Berscheid of St. Cloud, and Bill (Suzanne) Berscheid of Elk River; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Pat Berscheid of Grey Eagle.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosalie Berscheid on November 17, 2017; and brothers and sisters, Donald Berscheid, Dorothy Jacobs, Lorene Bitz, Arnold Berscheid, Clarence Berscheid, and Julian Berscheid.
