Edward J. “Ed” Frieler, age 94 of Melrose, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Edward John Frieler was born August 6, 1918 in Grenora, North Dakota to George and Mary (Wenker) Frieler. On May 22, 1946 he married Loretta Mueller at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed near Spring Hill for over 40 years until building their home in Melrose in 1982. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council. Ed enjoyed fishing, playing accordion, and playing cards.
Survivors include his children, Jan (Harold) Goebel of Albany, Allen (Judy) Frieler of Sauk Rapids, Jim (Kathy Meehan) Frieler of Belgrade, and Cheryl (Lee) Person of Paynesville; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Vernon (Aggie) Frieler of Grey Eagle, Duane (Rita) Frieler of Elrosa, and Doris (Ervin) Goebel of St. Joseph; and sisters-in-law, Hildegard Frieler of Sauk Centre, Eileen Frieler of Annandale, and Rita Frieler of Melrose.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Frieler on September 25, 2011; parents; son, Harold Frieler; infant son, Alvin Frieler; an infant sister; and brothers, Norbert Frieler, Lawrence Frieler, Lloyd Frieler, Francis “Fritz” Frieler and Al Frieler.
Serving as casket bearers will be Steven Goebel, Jarrett Frieler, Jason Person, Stacy Herickhoff, Lisa Stangler, and Dean Stangler. Cross bearer will be Shawn Frieler and scripture bearer will be Megan Stangler.
