On December 21st, 2019 at approximately 6:04 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a building fire at Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds at 15752 Lake Avenue in Paynesville Township.
Travis Schwegel, 30, of Cold Spring, was ice fishing on Lake Koronis when he noticed the rear of the main lodge of Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds was on fire.
The fire was on the northwest corner of the building. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to other areas of the building or to other buildings nearby. Initial investigation reveals the fire started from a possible electrical short from a large outdoor food cooler unit. All occupants of the building were able to evacuate safely.
MN State Patrol, Paynesville Police Department, Paynesville Fire and Rescue, Lake Henry Fire and Rescue, and New London Fire & Rescue assisted.
