Elmer V. Hammond

Elmer V. Hammond, age 92 of Freeport, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday evening at the church.
Elmer Vernice Hammond was born January 16, 1923 in Caro, Michigan to Ray and Sophia (Seibel) Hammond. Elmer worked on the farm prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Beuning at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Flint, Michigan. Elmer worked for General Motors in Flint, Michigan for 30 years and was able to retire at 55 years of age. Elmer and Lorraine then moved to Freeport where they spent the rest of their days until moving to nursing care in September of 2014. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Elmer enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Hammond of St. Cloud; children, Dan (LaVonne) Hammond of Grey Eagle, Judy (David) Harper of St. Cloud, Tom (Doris) Hammond of Albany, and Linda (Gary) Bleck of Brunsville; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Teresa Roerick, Irene Lund, Bernadine (Leo) Ettle, and Mary Jane (Arnold) Blommel. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Letha Clarke.
Serving as casket bearers will be David and Steven Fournier, Matt, Greg, Peter, and Mike Hammond. Cross bearer will be Andrea Bleck and scripture bearer will be Kimberly Fournier.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
