UPDATE: Expect delays on westbound Highway 10 in Elk River CANCELLED

May 25, 2018 by Hometown News

All lanes of westbound Highway 10 in Elk River will be OPEN May 25. The planned lane closures have been cancelled, as the contractor found a way to lift and place the bridge beams without closing lanes. Eastbound Highway 10 at Lake Orono will remain as a single lane through fall 2018.

Original Plan: Westbound Highway 10 to close 14 times while crews set bridge beams

ST CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 10 in west Elk River should plan for potentially major delays while all lanes of westbound Highway 10 at Lake Orono close intermittently, and both directions of Highway 10 are reduced to a single lane, Thursday and Friday, May 24–25.
Motorists should plan for the following:
· Westbound Highway 10 at the Lake Orono Bridge will be reduced to a single lane, and will close fourteen times, for up to 15 minutes each, from sunrise to sunset Thursday, May 24, and from sunrise to noon Friday, May 25.
· Eastbound Highway 10 will remain open as a single lane.
· Minnesota State Patrol will be on site to close the road as needed, and control traffic.
The closures are needed while crews lift and set fourteen bridge beams for the new, future westbound Highway 10 bridge spanning Lake Orono.
Memorial Day holiday travelers are also reminded that eastbound Highway 10 at Lake Orono in Elk River is reduced to a single lane 24 hours per day, and all lanes of Highway 10 at Lake Orono are shifted to narrow, temporary lanes with a reduced speed limit, through mid-October 2018.
The work and closures are part of the Highway 10 Lake Orono bridge replacement project in west Elk River.
When complete in fall 2018, the project will replace the existing 75-year-old Highway 10 bridges spanning Lake Orono with new, modern bridges; resurface Highway 10 between Joplin Street NW and Xenia Ave NW; improve the Highway 10/Joplin Street/185th Avenue intersection; construct a new trail with river crossing between Gary Street NW and Simonet Drive NW; install new drainage infrastructure and make other improvements.
