Francis H. “Fran” Hertzog, age 94 of Grey Eagle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Getty Street Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be held in the parish cemetery.
There will be no visitation prior to the Mass.
Francis Harold Hertzog was born on November 29, 1926 in Winsted, Minnesota to Frank and Anna (Fasching) Hertzog. He earned his teaching degree from St. Cloud State University and obtained his MA degree in Educational Administration. Fran was principal at Melrose High School for many years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and the Melrose Lions Club. Fran enjoyed traveling, reading, and fishing. Fran treasured the natural beauty found on his farm and sharing it with his family.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Cyndy) Hertzog of Bozeman, Montana, Barbara (George) McClure of Grey Eagle, and Elizabeth Hertzog (Dave) of Fargo, North Dakota; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Fran was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hertzog on December 20, 2009; parents; daughter, Therese Hertzog; and brother, Mel Hertzog.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Mary’s School in Melrose.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
