Fred Dinkel, 84, of Long Prairie, passed away on January 6, 2019. Funeral services were held Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with Fr. Omar Guanchez officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date.
Frederick George Dinkel was born on his mother’s birthday, February 9, 1934, in Long Prairie to George and Marie (Koenig) Dinkel. He was a lifelong resident of Long Prairie, attending the Long Prairie School and later attended business college. In 1955, he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. On May 28, 1960, Fred married Judith Sorensen; together they had four daughters.
Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved to golf. He also had a love for pull tabs! Fred was the manager of the LPCC for many years.
Fred was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Knights of Columbus, Long Prairie City Council, Long Prairie Fire Department and the Long Prairie Country Club.
Fred is survived by his wife Judy of Long Prairie; daughters: Barb Dinkel Goodrich, Deb (Dan) Laumeyer, Pam Dinkel all of Long Prairie, Kim (Mark) Feist of Pillager; grandchildren: Eric Buhl, Jayson Dinkel, Kelly (Parker) Robinson, Hannah (Everett) Dotson, Brady (Nicole Vogt) Feist; great grandchildren: Mila Robinson and Violet Dotson.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Stanley & Doris Sorensen, sister & brother-in-law, Doris & Bob Olsen and brother-in-law Jim Sorensen.
