George Funk, age 92 died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.
George Funk was born September 2, 1926 in New Munich, Minnesota to John and Elizabeth (Bloch) Funk. On July 16, 1955, George was united in marriage to Rose Cecelia Lauer at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley, Minnesota. George took over the Funk family farm and farmed until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and the New Munich Lions Club. George served as lector and Eucharistic Minister at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Faith, family, and farming were so important to him. George enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards.
George will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Rose; children, David (Carol) Funk of St. Cloud, Bernadette Forster of Albany, James (Catharine) Funk of Cross Lake, Diane (Tim) Vadnais of Clearwater, Kevin (Pam) Funk of St. Joseph, Karen (Alan) Schuch of Marshall, and Jane (Gerald) Noble of West Fargo, North Dakota; 22 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Funk of Melrose.
George was preceded in death by infant children, John Funk and Ruth Funk; parents; brothers, Anton Funk, Henry Funk, Edward Funk and Norbert Funk; and sisters, Anna Funk, Sister Clement Funk OSB, and Barbara Wenker.
