Gerald (Jerry) Glenn Taft went to be with our Lord and Saviour on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Long Prairie CentraCare Hospital with his favorite nurse, Heather, by his side.
Services for Gerald (Jerry) Taft will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 at Faith Community Church in Burtrum with Rev. Terry Wardlaw officiating. Following the service, a memorial luncheon at the Burtrum Community Center will be served.
Jerry was born to Donald Glenn and Helen Irene (Haywood) Taft on September 26, 1931. He graduated from Farmington High School. He was called to service for the Korean War where he was a field wireman. He received his training in Ft. Riley Kansas. His pride was bringing back the colors of the company when he was honorably discharged on September 23, 1954. He married Clara Berens on March 18, 1961 and they raised a family of 5. Jerry worked many jobs over the years at Watson’s, owner of his own gas station and garage, Hydrostream, and Larson’s Boat Factory. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping at Horsepower Haven. Jerry had many interests that included hunting, fishing, making bird houses and feeders, watching birds and playing cards and cribbage. His most favorite hobby, was playing and teaching others the game of pool. Jerry also loved spending time with family, friends and his beloved pets.
Jerry will live on through his wife Clara of 57 years; children Brenda (Steve) Berling, Sandy (Blaine) Prout, Irene Bjelland (Shaun Ehlert), Glenn (Nancy) Taft, and Ginger (Jeff) Rech. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, many dear friends and his guard dog, Tom, the cat. All of whom he was very proud of and loved.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Fred Taft, sister-in-law Joanne Taft, infant daughter, son-in-law Erik Bjelland, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials are preferred.
Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
