Going fishing this weekend? MnDOT urges motorists to plan ahead, use caution in work zones

May 8, 2015 by Hometown News

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Anglers will be heading to their favorite fishing spots this weekend for the 2015 fishing season opener, and with the additional road traffic, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is urging travelers to plan ahead and use extra care while driving through highway work zones.

Motorists may encounter bypasses, lane closures and detours resulting from the hundreds of transportation projects that are underway this construction season. MnDOT recommends that motorists think about alternate routes, call 5-1-1 or go to www.511mn.org to get advance information about road construction and detours, and be prepared for slower moving traffic.

Highway projects that may affect weekend travel on May 8-10 include:

· Highway 10 between St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids – single-lane traffic in both directions, slow traffic

· I-94 between St. Michael and Monticello – lane shift, narrow lanes and reduced speeds

· I-494 in Plymouth – multiple lane and ramp closures

· I-35E in St. Paul and Little Canada – lane and ramp closures

· Highway 100 in St. Louis Park – ramp closures and lane shift

· I-35 Owatonna to Albert Lea – single-lane traffic in both directions, slow traffic

Motorists should:

· Check www.511mn.org for up-to-date information about traffic and road conditions.

· Minimize distractions (e.g., don’t use cell phones or eat or drink while driving).

· Follow posted speed limits; fines double in work zones.

· Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

For a complete list of projects, including construction dates and traffic impacts, visit www.mndot.gov/construction.
