Highway 10 in Rice shifts to narrowed temporary lanes May 2

Highway 10 in Rice shifts to narrowed temporary lanes May 2
Temporary signals provide access to local roads and businesses

BAXTER, Minn. – Motorists traveling both directions of Highway 10 in Rice will encounter reduced speed limits, narrowed lanes and potential slow or stopped traffic as all lanes of the road are shifted to the temporary bypass lanes beginning Friday, May 2.

Highway 10 traffic will remain on the temporary bypass lanes until the new Highway 10 bridges spanning County Road 2 open in October.

Also beginning Friday, May 2, the segment of County Road 2 intersecting westbound Highway 10 will close. A signed detour will direct motorists to a temporary signal system just west of County Road 2 at County Road 31. That signal will allow motorists to safely access local roads and businesses on both sides of Highway 10.

All lanes at the Highway 10/County Road 2 intersection will open by May 22.

The closures are needed as crews construct the new Highway 10/County Road 2 interchange in Rice.

The new interchange uses a non-standard design to reduce right of way and construction costs while also minimizing impacts to the local road system. When complete, it will improve safety, traffic flow and efficiency by replacing the existing Highway 10/County Road 2 intersection with an interchange.
