DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 29 near Alexandria will encounter a northbound traffic switch and southbound detour beginning as soon as Monday, Nov. 2.
Crews are paving the newly-constructed northbound lanes of Highway 29 on the south end of Alexandria. When that work is complete, northbound traffic will shift to the east side of the roadway.
Southbound traffic will be directed west on the new County Road 28 alignment, then back east to Highway 29 on the old County Road 28 alignment. The detour will give crews room to work on the roundabout more safely and efficiently.
County Road 87 will only be accessible to and from northbound Highway 29 during the detour. The current County Road 87 detour will remain in place.
In approximately two weeks, the new roundabout will open, and work will wrap up for the season.
The project will continue next spring near the Interstate 94/Highway 29 interchange.
Key components of the 2016 work include:
· Replacement of the Highway 29 bridges over I-94
· I-94 entrance and exit ramp reconstruction at Highway 29 · Modifications to the Highway 29/50th Avenue interchange
