Highway 4 detour begins July 12 in Stearns County

July 11, 2021 by Hometown News

Motorists who travel on Highway 4 through Meire Grove, Stearns County, should plan for some delays as a four-month detour begins Monday, July 12.

Highway 4 will close to through traffic between Stearns County Road 29, north of Meire Grove and 345th Street, south of Meire Grove. Motorists will follow a signed detour along I-94 through Melrose, Highway 237 and Stearns County Road 12 to County Road 31 south of New Munich, back to Highway 4 south of Greenwald. Get map

Highway 4 will be an active work zone in Meire Grove, as crews reconstruct the asphalt road surface and adjacent entrances between Second Avenue South and Second Avenue North; replace curb/gutter and underground storm sewer; and update or construct new sidewalk.

Highway 4 will be open and maintained to those who live, work or visit Meire Grove. However, expect changes like gravel surfaces or use of side or back entrances.

For your safety and ours, please stay out of closed or barricaded areas, be alert for flaggers and be prepared to stop. Pedestrians will encounter sidewalk closures, follow signed detours.

For current Highway 4 information, visit the project home page at www.mndot.gov/d3/projects/meiregrove/, or contact MnDOT Construction Project Manager Mike Klasen, at 320-248-2294 or michael.klasen@state.mn.us.

When complete in mid-October, the $2.1 million project will provide a smoother road surface, improve storm water run-off and improve traveler safety through Meire Grove.
