St. Cloud, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 55 in Rockford will encounter construction crews and potential delays as both directions of Highway 55 between Ash Street and Main Street are reduced to a single lane after 6 a.m. Monday, June 18.
Also beginning June 18, motorists may encounter delays while lanes are intermittently closed at the County Road 11/County Road 139 intersection, and the County Road 11/County Road 92 intersection. Those short-term lane closures are needed while crews prepare the detour route that will carry Highway 55 traffic after Highway 55 between Buffalo and Rockford closes July 9.
Motorists approaching the work zones should slow down, be prepared to stop, and move over to give crews room to safely complete their work.
The lane closures and work are part of a major project to reconstruct and improve Highway 55 between Buffalo and Rockford in 2018. The project will reconstruct Highway 55 between Division Street in Buffalo and Autumn Oaks/Electric Drive in Rockford, resurface between Autumn Oaks Drive and the Crow River bridge in Rockford, replace or repair underground culverts, remove cattle passes, upgrade guardrail, install a new center left-turn lane at Highway 55/Walnut Place, upgrade the Highway 55/Main Street signal and improve sidewalks in Rockford.
When complete, the project will improve the ride along 7.5 miles of Highway 55, and improve drainage, safety and accessibility.
