Home Damaged by Smoke in New Munich

July 5, 2021 by Hometown News

On July 4, 2021 at approximately 2:46 AM, the Stearns County Communications Center received a call reporting a TV on fire inside the residence at 410 Liberty Str. in New Munich. The caller said the TV appeared to be smoking and may have been on fire.

The initial information from the caller was that two people were outside the residence but there was still an adult male sleeping inside. Prior to the arrival of deputies, that male did make it outside. The owners of the home were identified as Kyle and Jodi Poepping, New Munich

The Melrose Police Department and Stearns County Deputies arrived on scene to find the home filled with smoke. New Munich Fire Department arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire. Three dogs and one cat also escaped the residence without harm. The home suffered severe smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One of the homes occupants reported that he was sleeping near the tv and heard a loud pop. Approximately 5 minutes later he smelled smoke.

The Freeport Fire Department was called to the scene to assist as well.
