ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists who travel Interstate 94 between St. Cloud and Collegeville will find more lanes open, more of the time, during weekend peak rush hours beginning Friday, Aug. 26.
I-94 between St. Cloud and Collegeville has been reduced to a single lane in each direction with head-to-head traffic on one side of the road while the other side of the road was reconstructed since May 9. Traffic has now been switched to its permanent side of the road, eliminating the head-to-head condition. Lane closures will continue until the project is complete in October.
Motorists should note the following on I-94 between St. Cloud and Collegeville beginning Friday, Aug. 26:
· All lanes of westbound I-94 will open Fridays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
· All lanes of eastbound I-94 will be open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
· All lanes of I-94 are scheduled to open Thursday, Sept. 1 at noon through Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m., to accommodate Labor Day holiday travel.
· Both directions of I-94 will be reduced to a single lane as needed during all other times until the project is complete in fall 2016.
The lane closures are necessary as part of a project to resurface and improve segments of I-94 between St. Joseph and Collegeville. When complete in fall 2016, The project will provide a smoother ride along six miles of I-94, improve drainage and safety, and extend the life of the roadway.
