Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Irene Pierskalla, 85, of St. Wendel was held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel. Father David Grundman officiated and burial was the parish cemetery. Irene passed away at Mother Of Mercy in Albany on Friday afternoon March 27, 2015.
Irene was born on July 3, 1929 to Catherine (Gerads) and Stephen Breth in Krain Twp. MN. She grew up and attended school in St. Anthony. She worked in the laundry department at St. Cloud Hospital. She met Ernest Pierskalla at a dance at the St. Wendel Ballroom; they got engaged on Valentine’s Day and were married that same year on September 13, 1955, and the couple made their home in St. Wendel. Irene was a proud homemaker and loved gardening. She was an active member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers. After living most of her life in St. Wendel, she moved to Albany to live at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home.
Irene is survived by her three sons; Lloyd, Martin, and Elmer Pierskalla, all of Avon; and a daughter, Gerrie (Lee) Komis, Avon. Three grandchildren; Jennifer, Blake, and Michaela; a brother, Stephen “Butch” Breth, Jr., St. Anthony; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernie in 2013; a sister, Dorain Layton; and four brothers: Werner, Herb, Martin, and Reinhard Breth.
