Jack McDermond born January 4th 1930 died December 6th 2013.
Jack McDermond, 83, of Nashwauk passed away Friday, December 6th at his home.
He was born to Mearl and Hilma (Marty) McDermond on Jan. 4, 1930 in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. After graduating from Bemidji High School he served in the US Navy. Once his time in the Navy was complete he moved to Nashwauk where he lived for 57 years. Jack worked as an oiler for LTV Steel until he retired in 1986.
He is survived by his granddaughter Lucy (Eric Eilertson) McDermond of Bowie MD, brother Edward of Pengilly MN and special friend Emma Kapla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris (Peanuts) Olson McDermond; and one daughter, Gayle McDermond.
Jack loved the outdoors and anything with a motor. Jack and Peanuts were members of local snowmobile and fourwheeler clubs. Jack could always be found in his fish house on opening day of ice fishing. During the summer Jack could be found at dawn on area lakes catching his limit of sunfish.
In recent years Jack and Emma enjoyed taking the bus to various local casinos. Jack was never much of a gambler, but enjoyed the social aspects of the trip.
Family and friends will miss his easy going, charismatic personality and the jokes he always had to share.
