Janice J. “Jan” Meyer, age 96, of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her eight daughters on Saturday, March 28th, 2026 at the Cura Care Center of Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery. The Mass will be livestreamed and the link can be found at: One In Faith.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Janice Josephine Schulte was born January 10. 1930 in New Munich, Minnesota to Alphonse and Irmalinda (Rademacher) Schulte. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1948 and earned her degree in nursing at St. Catherine University in St. Paul. On October 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Leo A. Meyer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Jan began her career in nursing at the Melrose Hospital and later became supervisor at Pine Villa Care Center, where she returned to live out her final years.
Jan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life. Jan loved spending winters in Pharr, Texas, and summers at their cabin on Big Birch Lake. She enjoyed square dancing, playing Bridge, and getting together weekly with her coffee party group. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren making memories.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Russ) Braegelmann of Melrose, Lou Rieland of Durand, Wisconsin, Mary Jo (Mark) Humbert of North Port, Florida, Peg (Bruce) Becker of North Port, Florida, Marie (John) Giglio, Colorado, Jill (Jay) Meyer of Big Lake, Paula (Mark) Postudensek of Ham Lake, and Lori Carbajal of Blaine; 25 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Lutz; brother, John “Jack” Schulte; and sister-in-law, Andrea Schulte.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Leo A. Meyer, on December 29, 2017; daughter, Joyce Meyer; brother, Dr. Jerome Schulte; son-in-law, Mark Rieland; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schulte.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Melrose.
