John E. Hellermann, age 67 of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
John Edward Hellermann was born May 7, 1952 in Melrose, Minnesota to Paul and Alma (Hinnenkamp) Hellermann. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1970 and continued his education at Alexandria Technical College with an emphasis in Agriculture. On October 30, 1993 he was united in marriage to Veronica Miller at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. John took over the family dairy farm five miles northwest of Melrose. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. In his younger years, John enjoyed participating in tractor pulls where he won many awards and later would take his family to watch. He loved farming with his sons, enjoyed looking at and working on old cars and trucks, and loved spending time with his family at the cabin.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica Hellermann of Melrose; four sons, Dylan, Alex, Jaden, and Austin Hellermann; sisters, Marian Goebel of Melrose and Elaine (Russ) Thom of Sauk Centre; three nephews, Jared, Aaron, and Adam; and four nieces, Jenny, Jeanne, Kari, and Kristen.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ralph Hellermann.
