John G. Stoermann

John G. “Johnnie” Stoermann, age 85 of St. Rosa, died peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 12 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Rev. Roger Botz, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in St. Rosa. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. from the St. Rosa Lions and the Grey Eagle Knights of Columbus Thursday evening.
John Gerhard Stoermann was born October 10, 1932 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Gerhard and Katherine (Hoppe) Stoermann. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957 on the USS Gurke and the USS Shields Destroyers. He was united in marriage to Lori Finken on June 13, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Johnnie received a Boiler Chief License and worked at Kraft Foods in Melrose for 30 years. He also worked at the Melrose Telephone Company for many years as a welder. Johnnie was Mayor of the City of St. Rosa from 1999 to 2010. He enjoyed golfing, reading, woodworking, and metalworking.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa Lions, Monsignor Lorsung Council #14616 Knights of Columbus, and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.
Survivors include his family, Lori Wolf, Mark (Joy) Stoermann, Judy (Dale) Dirkes, Mary (Doug) Briggs, Fay Stoermann, Gail (Christian) Sack, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren with one due in February, brother and sisters, Irene Pundsack, Rose Pundsack, and Robert Stoermann.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Julitta Austing, Rogaria Austing, Bernard Stoermann, Linus Stoermann, and Boniface Stoermann.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
